Although yet to be officially announced, reports according to the Evening Standard say Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo has agreed to a new three year contract.
The highly reputed youngster is a part of Nigeria’s squad for the World Cup starting in a little over a fortnight. He would likely make a huge impact in the tournament and the Stamford Bridge club were quick to award him a contract extension.
The Nigeria international has been on loan at Middlesbrough last season, having featured 13 times in central defence and once in the right back position.
His agent, Chika Akujobi, disclosed to the media that the youngster is happy with the draft contract offer from the club.
He said, “We have all seen the draft of the improved contract and the boy is happy about it. It’s a good contract and we are all happy about how Chelsea have warmed up to him and made him feel very much at home.”
“Everything is not all about money because Chelsea have really taken care of the player.”
With the club receiving a huge backlash from fans and media on promoting youth to the first team ranks, Jose Mourinho may be giving Omeruo a chance to impress next season alongside Tomas Kalas who excelled towards the end of the season when given the chance.
With the exodus of David Luiz to Paris Saint Germain, there could be a great opportunity to impress if the position is not strengthened during the transfer window.
