£50m price tag on Chelsea target

Italian side A.S. Roma have slapped a huge £50 million price tag on Moroccan defender Mehdi Benatia, who is a reported target for Chelsea and rivals Tottenham.

The Moroccan International and AS Roma defender Mehdi Benatia has been tipped for a move away from Roma as he is being targeted by several clubs in the Premier League including Chelsea and also the citizens keeping tabs on the situation.

Mehdi has enjoyed a decent season at Roma and, at 27 years old, the best from him is yet to come.

Even though the Blues have Gary Cahill and John Terry, who get along really well, adding another defender into the squad wouldn’t be too bad, especially following the sale of David Luiz.

The Brazilian has joined his fellow compatriot Thiago Silva at PSG for a 50m fee transfer which makes him the the first defender to be transferred for such high amount of money.

Roma’s sporting director Walter Sabatini says he won’t let the Moroccan international go to another club without real discussions and has made it clear that nothing short of 50M would convince him to sell Mehdi Benatia.

Asked whether or not the Moroccan international would play in the Premier League next season, he stated:

“He has been completely coherent; he’s never played for himself, always with and for the team.”

Personally, I think £25m is the value of Benatia’s weak foot. If Benatia’s weak foot is worth £25m then the total price would be £50m.
