Eden Hazard No.10

Chelseas Belgian wonderkid, Eden Hazard, looks set to stay at the Bridge after announcing he will wear the No.10 shirt as of next season.

The news comes from the Blues official website, whereby the young attacker stated it is a dream come true:

“I am very pleased to be able to wear the number ten for Chelsea”, the Belgian national said,

“It is my favourite number and is one I am used to wearing for the national team, as well as the one worn by some of my heroes from when I was a kid, like Zinedine Zidane.

‘I hope it brings me a lot of luck in the future and I look forward to the fans seeing me in it next season.”

The 23-year-old has arguably been the Blues’ best player this season, scooping the Player of the Year Award at Chelsea’s annual ceremony.

The No.10 shirt is incredibly symbolic in football. Across the continents, it is usually worn by the team’s most skilful, attacking playmaker.

Eden Hazard, before making the switch to London, had indicated that acquiring the shirt would be a deal breaker, however, with Juan Mata being a firm favourite amongst the Chelsea faithful, the talented Belgian had to settle for 17.

Having matured into one of the team’s top performers, seeing the No.10 on the back of his shirt will give the 23-year-old a great sense of pride, and give the fans even greater encouragement for his services in the seasons to come.
