Midfield options for 2014/15

It’s that time of year again when transfer speculation goes into overdrive, and, as you might expect, Chelsea is at the centre of it once more.

After securing the high profile signature of Cesc Fabregas for €33 million, the media are reporting that Jose Mourinho is not finished and is potentially looking to bolster his midfield even further by adding to Nemanja Matic and Fabregas, following the devastating departure of club legend, Frank Lampard.

The Metro and the Daily Mail are heavily linking the club with Bayern’s Toni Kroos, 24, and Juventus powerhouse Paul Pogba, 21, especially after the Frenchman was spotted playing as a Chelsea player while on the Football Manager game at the World Cup this week.

While the signing of Kroos or Pogba may not be necessary, it would certainly make Chelsea’s midfield one of the strongest in Europe and may persuade Mourinho to switch from his trademark 4-2-3-1 formation to the famous 4-3-3 which led to all the success during his first stint at the Bridge.

All these midfield possibilities will also question the future of Ramires and John Obi Mikel, while young talent such as Van Ginkel, Josh McEachran & Nathaniel Chalobah may have to be sent out on loan to accomodate for this array of options in the middle of the park and also for them to develop before being considered an integral part of the Chelsea midfield.
