Reports: Chelsea lead race to sign Fabregas

Various media reports, predominantly from Spain, are suggesting that Chelsea are leading the race to signing former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas from Spanish giants Barcelona.

The Spaniard has reportedly been told that he can leave the Catalan club and favours a move back to the Premier League where he played for 8 years at London rivals Arsenal.

A number of Premier League clubs have had their interest in him reported by the press but with Manchester United, Manchester City and former club Arsenal reportedly pulling out the race for now, it leaves the door open for Chelsea to make a move.

Spanish football expert Graham Hunter simply replied “Chelsea” when asked by TalkSport where the midfielder would end up by the end of this saga.

Chelsea also had their odds to sign Fabregas cut down to 1/2 by many bookmakers on Tuesday.

Another La Liga expert @Kike_Marin_ on Twitter reports that Fabregas met with Chelsea representatives this week and has agreed to join the club.

It is unknown what the situation is in terms of the two clubs agreeing a fee, which is, if it happens, reported to be around the £30 million mark.

The rumours will come as a surprise to many as it is well documented that Fabregas and Chelsea do not have the best relationship – he had an ongoing fued with Mourinho when Jose was in Spain, and is despised among many Chelsea fans.

However, with Frank Lampard announcing his departure from the club, Chelsea fans will surely take to Fabregas if he were to join the West London club. The central midfield position is one that needs attending to in the opinion of many Blues fans.

However, with no word coming out of either club about this deal as of yet, it is hard to say what substance these stories have. With the World Cup coming up, Chelsea may want to get the deal tied up while they appear to be in the driving seat.
