Schurrle: Chelsea have allowed me to develop as a player

Chelsea winger Andre Schurrle has revealed that Chelsea have helped him develop as a player. Schurrle claimed that he wanted to leave Germany and have enjoyed his experience at Chelsea and how lovely the fans have been.

The German winger told Sport magazine during an exclusive interview.

“I’ve loved it. I wanted to leave Germany to test myself, and Chelsea has been a fantastic experience that has allowed me to develop as a player. The fans have welcomed me so quickly, and I really enjoy being at this club and playing for these fans.” He said.

He explained further on how he has developed as a player and hoped he can improve on his game next season.

“My body is much stronger – that’s the main thing. The game here is a lot more physical, so I’ve got bigger and won more close battles for the ball. I’m much more confident in the way I want to play, too. I know what I want. So I think I changed a lot, and I know what I want. So I think I changed a lot, and I hope I can do better next season,” he added.

This was what Schurrle had to say when he was asked, if he expects to play as a lone striker for Germany in the ongoing 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. This is in relation to Jose Mourinho playing him as a lone striker at a certain point in the season.

“I think I can play it, but it’s not my main position. I don’t feel most comfortable in this position- but, if the manager doesn’t have any other options, I have no problem. The way I play, I can come to the ball, I can move into the space, so it’s no problem. I think with Miroslav (Klose), we have a striker who is perfect for the position, so hopefully I’m not needed there.”

In his first season for Chelsea, the 23-year-old made 42 appearances and scored nine goals. He is currently part of Germany’s 23-man squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
