Didier Drogba set for shock return?

Chelsea legend Dider Drogba is being linked with a move back to the club which he left in the most dramatic way possible.

Drogba has not kicked a ball for Chelsea since that night in Munich and his final spot kick that finally bought the Champions League trophy back to Stamford Bridge.

But according to various sources, including the Daily Mail, the 36 year old is attracting interest from Jose Mourinho who wants to bring the Ivorian back to West London.

Drogba is without a club since leaving Galatasaray at the end of the season and has been attracting interest from Italian giants Juventus as well as financially attractive clubs in Qatar.

However, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho reportedly still has a strong relationship with the striker after he first signed him for Chelsea in 2004, and would be interested in bringing him back in a player-coach role as he looks to boost his attacking and backroom options.

It is unlikely that Drogba would play the main striker at Chelsea due to his advancing years and the recent acquisition of frontman Diego Costa from Atlético Madrid. He would, however, provide invaluable experience and a trusty backup option as the Blues look to bring silverware back to the Bridge.

Drogba is thought to favour a move back to his beloved Chelsea rather than a move to Qatar, and Mourinho stated back in March, before Chelsea came up against Drogba in the Champions League, that the striker could well return to Chelsea one day and that is an option he wants to explore.

Speaking back in March, Mourinho said:

I think it has to happen that one day he returns. When, I don’t know. As a player, as a coach, an an ambassador, next year, in four, five years, in ten years, I don’t know.

“But when a person represents so much to a club and when a club represents so much to a person, and that’s the case, I think he has to be back one day”, he added.

The Chelsea legend would provide experience in winning trophies for the Blues to a squad that is getting younger with every passing season, as Mournho looks to make amends for the trophyless campaign in his first since returning to the club.
