Cech and Courtois to stay, insists Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that both Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois are to stay at Chelsea, amid rumours over the former’s future.

Petr Cech has been the centre of much paper talk surrounding his future since the return of Thibaut Courtois to Chelsea, after the Beglian spent three seasons on loan at Atlético Madrid.

Mourinho claimed earlier this week that he already knew who would line up in goal for Chelsea’s season opener away to Burnley on Monday evening, but has so far refused to reveal his decision.

Speaking to the press ahead of that away trip to Burnley, Mourinho insisted neither goalkeepers was close to leaving the club.

There is no offer [for either player], there is no possibility [that one leaves]. We have two of the three best goalkeepers in the world with Cech and Courtois.

“For me it is a great problem to have [deciding on who is number one]. Every manager in the world would like to have Courtois, Cech and Schwarzer!, he added.

“I am very happy with what I have in the squad in terms of experience and the number of players under the age of 21”, he finished.

Mourinho did, however, reportedly drop his biggest hint yet that Courtois would be the shot stoper to line up against Burnley on Monday night.

I have to try to hide the emotions of the situation & decide what is the best for the team and the club.

This would suggest that Mourinho has chosen the Belgian to be the number 1 at Chelsea, as Jose would have an “emotional” connection to Cech, who has been the main goalkeeper since Mourinho’s first stint in charge at the club.
