Recently departed Chelsea hero Frank Lampard could be set to join title rivals Manchester City on loan for 6 months.
Lampard recently signed for New York City FC, Manchester City’s sister club, but the MLS season does not start until March next year.
The owner’s of Manchester City have links with New York City and the latter will want to keep Lampard match fit before he returns to the club and begins his MLS career.
The move would come as a huge shock as Lampard, a Chelsea legend, had previously suggested that he would not want to play for another Premier League club.
Lampard spent 13 years at Stamford Bridge and is the clubs top scorer with 211 goals from midfield, also making him the Premier League’s all time top scorer.
Manchester City are keen to save money on a player who would register as a home grown, and could play in the Premier League and Champions League up until the end of his loan spell.
Lampard, keen to remain popular with the Chelsea faithful, has reportedly refused to play against his former club when Manchester City host Chelsea on September 21st.
There is yet to be any official confirmation from either club or the player himself but with media outlets such as Sky and BBC reporting the story, it certainly looks likely that we could yet be seeing Lampard again in the Premier League.
