Jose Mourinho has admitted that he feels his Chelsea side are finally genuine contenders for the Premier League crown this season, thanks to recent signings.
Mourinho repeatedly insisted last campaign that his Chelsea side were the metaphorical “little horse” in the title race, and were never realistic contenders.
However, after the marquee signings of Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Filipe Luis, as well as the return of Didier Drogba, Mourinho now believes that his Chelsea side have a realistic shot at their first Premier League crown since 2010.
Speaking to the press at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground earlier this afternoon, Mourinho said:
Last season we were not feeling as though we were a title contender but in fact we finished very close to the title.
“We didn’t feel as one of the favourites for the Champions League and we played a semi-final, so we did well”, he added.
“This season obviously we bought some key players, we believe and we are feeling that the new players have brought the squad and team into another dimension.”
Yes we are title contenders, if you expect me to say we will win the Premier League I can’t say that. I can’t because I have to respect the competition.
“[The Premier League] is the only one that has more than two title contenders,” he claimed.
Mourinho often came under criticism last season due to his comments that claimed his side were not in the title race, but Jose certainly seems happier now he’s been able to build what is now his Chelsea side.
With the confidence of the manager behind them and some recent world class arrivals, do you feel that this Chelsea team can go on to win this year’s Premier League crown?
