Robben: Injuries made it difficult with Jose

Arjen Robben has revealed how he found it difficult back in the days when he was playing at Chelsea

At 31 years of age he is enjoying the best time of his career at Bayer Munich, however, it hasn’t always been easy for the Dutchman.

He played at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho between 2004 and 2007, winning two leagues cup, one FA Cup and two Premier league titles and despite playing a big role within the team during the three consecutive seasons, he revealed how Jose Mourinho’s anxiety with injured player had a big impact on him and said.

“It was hard at first because I came with an injury. It was very difficult for me and also for him. Of course, he doesn’t like players who get injured. So it wasn’t easy but I always had the feeling I had his confidence. I played some great games for Chelsea but it was unfortunate I had injury problems and I couldn’t do it over a long period – like now.”

Despite the frustration, the 31 years old still has good memories and praised the Special one in his development

It was very good to work with him, especially at that age because I was young and with Mourinho you have to be mentally very strong. You have to jump on the train with him or you’re off. So it was great for my development in a way.”
