Allardyce praises Costa

Diego Costa is like Marmite – you either love him or loathe him.

Big Sam seems to be a bit of a fan. He has warned his defenders that they need to show Costa respect and not to engage with him in the physical and niggly aspect of the game that he seems to thrive on.

I don’t think it winds him up – it winds him up to make him better which is a silly thing to do.

Allardyce further went on to say, in an interview reported on Sky Sports News, that he believes Costa will be one of very few strikers to break the 20 goal barrier in the Premier League this season ( he is currently on 17).

That might be good fortune, or his expertise as a finisher – he can head them in, scuff them in, mis-kick them in, hit them in sweet, hit them in through the legs, deflect them in off the defender – it shows his great ability to score goals.

Costa also makes the perfect front man for the Adidas #THEREWILLBEHATERS campaign. There are many who regard him as a dirty player and he has received 8 yellow cards so far this season – 2 away from suspension. He was also controversially awarded a retrospective 3 match ban by the FA in January for his “stamp” on Emre Can against Liverpool.

Diego is aware of what he feels is an unjust reputation but said in The Mail, before The capital One Cup Final, that he has no intention of changing the way he plays.

” I know that I have to be a little more careful, because it’s not the same when I do something as it is when someone else does it.”

I have to be extra careful but I”m never going to change the way I play. That’s what got me here. That’s the way I play.

Don’t ever change Diego. I think like you just the way you are… and I also love marmite.
