Chelsea defender offered new contract

Chelsea have reportedly offered Serbian right-back Branislav Ivanovic a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

Ivanovic has been in fine form this season, with four goals in his last seven appearances adding to his continued defensive consistency.

His goals this term have included an extra-time winner against Liverpool to send his side to the Capital One Cup final.

The 31-year old is now set to be rewarded for his fine form with a bumper new contract that will see him stay in West London beyond his current deal, which expires in the summer.

The Serb is likely to be offered a 12-month contract, keeping in line with Chelsea’s ‘over 30’ policy, which will see him earn £90,000 per week with the Blues.

34-year old John Terry is set to agree to similar terms in the coming weeks as Chelsea seek to keep their solid backline intact.

The news also comes after Ivanovic’s international teammate Nemanja Matic was offered a new deal by the club this week after a stunning first year back at Chelsea.

The midfielder has been pivotal in Chelsea’s rise to the top of the Premier League this year and Chelsea will certainly be looking to tie up new contracts for key players if they go on to claim the Premier League crown in May.
