Former Chelsea misfit will cost Manchester clubs €60m

Kevin De Bruyne has, since leaving Chelsea last summer, made a name for himself in the world of football; the Belgian starlet that once enticed the big spenders from West London has now sparked interest from both Manchester clubs, who have been told to cough up €60m to secure the 23-year-old.

The Belgian has been in the media spotlight since his big-money move to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in the summer, as he continues to embark on the life-after-Chelsea path.

De Bruyne has been a regular starter for the German side this season, who also secured the signing of Andre Schurrle in January and who now sit 2nd in the Bundesliga, 11 points behind Bayern Munich.

The winger, who can also play in behind the striker (as he has done at times behind Bas Dost this season), has justified the ‘king of assists’ tag placed on him; 14 goals and 20 assists in his 34 appearances this season is certainly form to attract Europe’s elite clubs, and that is certainly what the the former Premier League misfit has done.

Newspapers, including The Telegraph, London Evening Standard and The Daily Mail, are reporting that Manchester City have stepped up their pursuit for the Belgian, who is likely to cost them €60m – a heavy price-tag for someone who couldn’t quite cut it in England last time around.

City will be hopeful of utilising Vincent Kompany’s position to see the deal through, although it is perhaps unlikely that Wolfsburg would want to sell a player, largely responsible for their success in Bundesliga this season, so soon after securing his signature.

Reports claiming Manchester United’s interest also circled the media last week, with a possible Di Maria exit likely to fund any potential deal.
