Manuel Pelligrini: My players would never surround referees

Manchester City’s manager Manuel Pelligrini has hit out at the Blues for their lack of respect after the Chelsea players surrounded the referee when Zlatan Ibrahimovic challenged Oscar. Even though the Swedish giant pulled out at the last moment, Chelsea players were quick to react by surrounding the referee urging him to send him off.

Pelligrini joins the likes of Graeme Souness and Jamie Carragher for critising the Blues’s behaviour which lead to the sending off. He said:

You will never see the City players surround the referee.Maybe you can discuss with the referee about a decision but just one moment in the game. Every time the referee has a decision you have all the players on top of him and it’s impossible for the referee to work.

Manuel Pelligrini thinks there needs to be limit to what teams will do to win, he added:

I think all the managers prepare their players to win, but there are different ways to win. You must analyse which is the correct way. They always try to pressure the referee in every decision, so the referee always has problems.

Chelsea will host Southampton tomorrow and hope to get three points so they can maintain their lead over Manuel Pelligrini’s side.
