Chelsea dominate PFA awards

The Premier League leaders and champions elect dominated this years Professional Footballers’ Association awards, with the annual ceremony taking place last night.

Six current Chelsea players and one ex player in the form of Ryan Bertrand occupied this season’s PFA Team of the Year, which is voted for by the players themselves.

However, Jose Mourinho, perhaps sarcastically, argued that “all” Chelsea players should have made the Team of the Year.

Asked to point out who was missing, Mourinho made a claim for Cesc Fabregas, based on “the number of assists and the quality of his performance.”

This team does not win the Premier League. You have the four defenders with Matic, but then you have 5 attackers wanting to score goals; there is no balance.”

The Blues boss then went on to say the team was “missing a central midfielder”, again directing the attention to the man who made his return to the Emirates yesterday afternoon, and who has created 16 assists in the Premier League this season.

Unsurprisingly it was Chelsea’s Eden Hazard that took home the PFA Player of the Year award, making it six POTY awards (three YPOTY) in his last seven seasons – his first in West London being the only season absent of an award.

Hazard was congratulated by pundits and team-mates across social media today, with Chelsea past an present posting photos of the Belgian and his award.

Harry Kane deservedly took home the YPOTY award, which Hazard was also in the running for – the award he took home last season.

In the Women’s PFA awards, it was another Chelsea player who took home the Player of the Year award. Ji So-Yun, who has hugely impressed since arriving from the Japanese League last year, capped a great season by collecting the award last night.

Ji So-Yun was also named in the Women’s PFA Team of the Year, alongside Chelsea and England star Eni Aluko.
