Chelsea target Southampton duo

Jose Mourinho is planning a summer double-swoop of Southampton which would see Nathaniel Clyne and Morgan Schneiderlin join his Chelsea side, according to The Guardian.

The Chelsea boss apparently sent scouts to watch over the duo during Southampton’s 1-0 defeat against Everton over the weekend.

Clyne, 24, and Schneiderlin, 25, are coveted by many top Premier League clubs, with the pair both being linked to Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal in recent weeks.

They have also been uttered in the same sentence as Manchester United and Schneiderlin appeared to be on the brink of a summer move to Tottenham at the beginning of the season.

However, with Chelsea apparently planning a clear out, particularly in midfield, as they close in on their first League title in five years, The Frenchman would certainly be a useful addition to the Blues.

Clyne has also impressed in the Saints defence this season, which is the best in the Premier League, and would provide competition for Branislav Ivanovic at right-back, who has enjoyed a mixed campaign.

He would also bolster the English core to the team, with John Terry and Gary Cahill the only homegrown regulars in Mourinho’s current side.
