Chelsea are one of several clubs who are interested in securing the services of Atletico Madrid defender Miranda in the next transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.
Reports are starting to emerge from Spanish media outlet AS, it has been claimed that the Brazilian star who has struggled for first-team minutes in La Liga at times this season, is now ready to accept a move to England, after rejecting the chance to make the switch to Stamford Bridge last summer.
In fact, the same report has suggested that Miranda wants to be reunited with the ex-Atletico Madrid duo of Filipe Luis and Diego Costa, who are both currently playing their football under the management of Jose Mourinho.
Miranda, of course, previously starred alongside the Blues duo in Spain, when they secured the La Liga title and reached the Champions League final last year.
As well as wanting to link-up with Costa and Luis again, the report from the Mail has revealed that the defender is now more open to a move to England with Gimenez now a regular in the back-line at Atletico.
The report claims that the player has also been offered to both Manchester United and Manchester City, but it now appears that Chelsea are in the driving seat to secure his services.
Earlier this month, however, that the 31-year-old rejected any transfer talk, as he told Brazilian website Estadao: “Of course this news reaches me, and it makes me happy. It shows I am doing well.
It makes me proud, but my intention is to stay at Atletico because I still have a year and a half on my contract.
There’s no doubt about it, as Chelsea go in search of another fine season next term, Miranda would only prove a quality asset for Mourinho’s side.
Critics will, however, say that at 31 the player’s best years are behind him, but he’d only bring added experience to the club’s back-line as the club go searching of winning the Champions League under Mourinho for the first time.
This transfer certainly wouldn’t surprise anyone, and would only make the Blues a stronger force on both the domestic and European scene.
