Costa: I’m being singled out

Diego Costa has claimed that he’s being singled out and that he has been unfairly treated by Chelsea’s opponents in an act to wind him up.

Even though it’s Costa who has been in the headlines this season for his overly aggressive style of play. He even got a three-match ban for a stamp on Emre Can during Chelsea’s Capital One Cup semi-final first leg tie at home to Liverpool, the Spanish international has bemoaned opponents for allegedly winding him up.

Costa – “I have been receiving that kind of treatment for a long time, so I will try to improve and not fall into the trap.”

“Everyone wants to win and do their best for their club. In my own way, I try to give my all for my team and fans — my opponent will do the same so I don’t complain because it’s part of the game.” – reports London Evening Standard.

Fans and pundits can’t deny that Costa has made a huge impact in Chelsea’s title push since his arrival from Atletico Madrid in the summer, in a deal worth approximately £32 million. He is currently joint top scorer – with Harry Kane. They both have 19 goals.

But for a lot of people his battling style of play leaves them with an unfair view and hatred towards him because despite his impressive goal scoring record, his other on-field, antics over-shadow.

However, Costa says he won’t change his style of play.

“I will keep fighting and try to give my best for the team. Things are going well for me. I can’t deny I’m competitive, I’m a fighter. That’s how the League is here.”

“There is fight, commitment, teams never stop battling and it’s a competition that demands a lot from a player. That’s why I like it and I’m very happy here.”
