The former Chelsea player, Fernando Torres claimed Steven Gerrard played a key role in his career.
Torres left Anfield in January 2011 for a British record transfer fee of 50M to join Chelsea. The 31 years old failed to reproduce his best form for the Blues and the struggle kept going but was then eventually loaned to Milan and he is currently enjoying his time in Atletico Madrid, where it all started for him as professional footballer
However he maintains the idea that Steven Gerrard was the big influence in shaping his decision to leave the Red and insisted he will never find a teammate like him. He said:
There’s one player that influenced me above anyone else and that’s Gerrard. He changed my career, my ambition, wanting to win, he changed everything.
The Spaniard admits the decision was easier when he spoke to Gerrard and said:
“Even when I was leaving Liverpool he told me ‘go, think about yourself. Do what’s best for you, you’ve nothing to prove. He changed the way I saw things, telling me that I could get much higher than what I had always thought.
I’ll never find a team-mate like him.†added Torres
