Jose: Costa fit for Monday

Jose Mourinho remained quiet over summer spendings in today’s press conference, but revealed that Diego Costa should be fit to face West Brom on Monday night, after weeks of set-backs.

The Blues’ boss was asked to discuss the future of Petr Cech, after reports had emerged from the goalkeeper’s agent that he had been given permission to speak to other clubs.

Jose said: ‘I don’t know if this is completely true, or maybe it is.

‘ I want my best players, Petr is one of my best players; I want my important players, Petr is an important player. Of course I want him to stay.’

I expect him to [stay], because I am positive and I am optimistic.

Where one contract expires, rumours of contract extensions for on-loan striker Patrick Bamford are leaking in the papers. However, Mourinho refused to discuss Bamford’s future while he was still a Middlesborough player – the Championship side compete in the second leg of the Play-off Semi Finals tonight against Brentford.

When asked about injuries, Jose stated that Ramires, Oscar and Zouma would be out for the rest of the season, but there was good news for striker Diego Costa, who is in the squad for Monday’s fixture, and a possible return for Petr Cech against Sunderland.

Mourinho kept quiet when quizzed on transfer policies. A reporter asked if Jose expected to be busy this summer, to which he replied: ‘I expect to be busy walking from my towel on the sand to the water. That is all.’

I like my squad very much; a young squad with space to improve. I’m very happy to keep my players.
