Lampard: I never got on with Steven Gerrard

They may have played in the same national team but rivalries between Chelsea and Liverpool prevented them from being close.

Yesterday, Steven Gerrard played his last game at Anfield. Despite the fact that Crystal Palace won 3-1 and spoiled his farewell, the former Chelsea player said:

“We were in the England squad, captain and vice-captain in the last World Cup and I certainly respect him hugely I always did.But when you’re going against each other you can kind of get caught up in that.

Frank Lampard believes playing for different clubs played a huge part in becoming rivals, he said:

“I was very much a Chelsea man. He was Mr. Liverpool and we’d come against each other. I had John next to me he had Jamie Carragher. It was all healthy stuff.”

However having gained so much experience as a professional football player,Frank Lampard’s views on the game changed over the years, as he became more mature. He added:

As you get older you mellow slightly in years and you just respect him for what he’s done in his career.

Frank Lampard admitted how lucky he was to have played alongside him and against him and added:

“I can look at him and say what a fantastic player he’s been for Liverpool and England and actually a really fantastic bloke.”

Both players have finished business with the Premier League and are winding down their carreers in the US next season.
