Bamford rejects Newcastle in favour of Chelsea stay

According to The Times, the young and prolific English striker has apparently turned down the opportunity to be reunited with manager Steve McClaren at Newcastle after having previously played under him while on loan at Derby County. Since Patrick Bamford joined Chelsea in 2012 from Nottingham Forest he has not managed to make a single start in a competitive match and is looking to change that, but it will be extremely tough.

The current Championship Player of the Year might have to face competition from Loic Remy, who might leave, Radamel Falcao, who is painfully close to signing, and Diego Costa, Chelsea’s star striker and first-choice forward. That being said I can’t see Bamford coming close to being either second or third choice striker if Falcao joins and Remy and Costa stay.

Furthermore, he is not the only young striker that Chelsea have available to call up to the first team. Dominic Solanke, Izzy Jay Brown, and Tammy Abraham are also in contention for a spot in the first team after impressing all Chelsea fans with their performances at the youth level.

There have also been rumours of Everton, Sunderland, and some newly promoted teams being interested in Bamford and his potential suitors would most likely be better options to help him develop as a player and one day return and maybe, just maybe, break into the first team.

He may be the Championship Player of the Year and Middlesbrough’s top scorer last season with 17 goals, but he lacks experience at England’s top level and to be at a team like Chelsea only makes things tougher. I would definitely love to see Bamford become a starter for Chelsea, but not yet.
