Less than 24 hours after Chelsea announced that their legendary goalkeeper, Petr Cech, was officially an Arsenal player, the Blues managed to come to an agreement with Asmir Begovic on personal terms and are now in the closing stages of the transfer with Begovic’s soon to be ex-club, Stoke City.
According to gianlucadimarzio.com, Chelsea have managed to procure the signing of the Stoke goalkeeper for a fee of £8 million. Meanwhile, the Bosnian goalkeeper will now be making a reported £4 million a season for being Chelsea’s backup ‘keeper. A hefty sum to play second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois.
A transfer to Chelsea to be a backup goalkeeper may not be the smartest move for 28 year-old Asmir Begovic when it comes to playing time, but in terms of winning trophies it is a fantastic move for both Begovic and Chelsea.
