According to The Metro, Chelsea are planning a swoop for Everton’s John Stones as they seek a replacement for ageing captain John Terry.
The newly crowned Champions of England will be looking for defensive reinforcements, and the Everton centre-back has popped up as a potential target. The defender who has a £20m release clause has been seen as a possible replacement of Terry, who has been an ever present player at Chelsea. A deal for Stones could well be within sight.
The Everton star has established a reputation as one of England’s most talented and upcoming defenders since arriving at Goodison Park in 2013. And his performances have not gone unnoticed by the Premier League’s giants.
Over the past 24 months, Chelsea have watched Stones extensively and flirted with the idea of a move last summer. And the Blues are now poised to resurrect their interest in the 20-year-old as they search for John Terry’s long-term successor.
Should Chelsea be really interested and should he choose to make a switch to Stamford Bridge, he would face stiff competition from not only the established players but young stars like Kurt Zouma and Tomas Kalas and perhaps even Kenneth Omeruo and highly promising Andreas Christensen.
