England have earned their first 3 points in the U21 Euro 2016 Finals thanks to an impressive performance from substitute Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
With the game against Sweden evenly balanced at 0-0, England were poised to crash out of the tournament after loosing their opening fixture against Portugal 1-0.
However, the U21 coach Gareth Southgate replaced Tom Carroll with Loftus-Cheek in the 73rd minute.
The powerful midfielder made an instant impact with his pace and composure on the ball and England were rewarded with the only goal of the game, in the 85th minute with Jesse Lingard (Manchester United) breaking the deadlock with a good from the edge of the box.
The Chelsea prospect is the youngest member of England’s U21 squad and according to Gareth Southgate, Loftus-Cheek needs to seize every opportunity he has for club and country.
The 19 year old appears to have taken these words on board , with Southgate full of praise for the youngster after the game. “There’s that innocence of youth at times. He just wants to go out and play. You could see the type of impact that he can have on a game.â€
Loftus-Cheek is expected to make more appearances for Chelsea next season, having made his first start for the blues last month.
