Petr Cech watched the majority of the season on the bench as an understudy to young Belgian star, Thibaut Courtois. It became more and more obvious over the course of the season that the veteran would be departing Stamford Bridge, seeking regular playing time in the highest level of English football, where he wants to be. Following his departure, Cech wrote a letter to the Chelsea fans, management, and everyone else involved:

In the 2014/15 season, the 33-year-old only made seven appearances for the Blues in the Premier League. For a player who has been consistently named in Chelsea’s starting XI since 2004, it would have been a bit of a change – barely featuring.

During his time at Chelsea, there was no doubt Cech entered the bracket of best goalkeepers in the world. However, it’s clear to see that Mourinho feels Courtois brings more to the current side, with the youngster only beginning his career in English football.
