Zouma off to Serie A?

Reports have circulated in the past week linking highly-rated Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma with an unlikely move to Sampdoria.

The president of the Serie A side, Massimo Ferrero, has confirmed his interest in the Frenchman in his attempts to build a strong side.

“I already signed [Niklas] Moisander from Ajax and I am trying to get Zouma, because they are very physical players.”

However, a move away from Stamford Bridge is extremely unlikely for the Frenchman, especially after an impressive first season for Chelsea’s Young Player of The Year.

Furthermore, boss Jose Mourinho admitted earlier this season that the 20-year-old featured more than expected this season, and that he is showing great potential at the club.

Speaking on the clubs official website two months ago, Mourinho said, “Zouma is now 20 years old and one day he will be 23, 24 and a player with great maturity, probably even with leadership to replace John [Terry].

This season he is playing more than I expected, more than he expected and more than everyone expected so he is getting experience levels which are very important.

Zouma made 26 appearances across all competitions last season scoring twice, including a debut goal against Bolton Wanderers in the Capital One Cup.

The versatile centre-back can also play in a holding midfield role, a position he excelled in when playing there in the Capital One Cup Final, which saw Zouma win his first trophy with Chelsea.

The French international joined the Blues from St Etienne on the final day of the transfer window in January 2014, before being loaned back to the Ligue 1 side for the rest of the season.
