Brazilian starlet Kenedy to sign for Chelsea this week

Pedro Henrique Torre of ESPN Brazil has today reported that Brazilian youngster Kenedy will be finalizing his deal with Chelsea sometime this week. After months of speculation, the transfer seems to finally be on the doorstep of completion.

The details? It looks to be a five year contract worth £6.3 million. The nineteen-year-old has already left his club, Fluminense, and his rights will be sold to a third-party organization.

The striker is set to be Chelsea’s third signing of the summer after fellow Brazilian Nathan and ex-Manchester United number nine Radamel Falcao. However, like Nathan, the teenager’s future at Stamford Bridge is a bit cloudy. I can’t see him getting anywhere near The Blues’ starting eleven this season at least, and a loan deal might be on the cards. I can already tell that Kenedy will fall into the category of ‘anonymous Chelsea youngsters with massive potential who will be sold before a lick of first team action’. Yeah, I just made that up.

Really though, £6.3 million is a fairly large amount of money for an unknown teenager. Let’s hope that Mourinho either makes a profit on the Brazilian in a few years or assists his ascent into Chelsea glory. According to the report, we should be getting official confirmation of the transfer’s completion this week.
