According to John Cross of the Mirror, Former Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba is set to become the next big name star to play out in the MLS, following the likes of Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, David Beckham and Andrea Pirlo.
Despite LA Galaxy being clear favourites to sign the Ivorian, because of their past signings from the Premier League, it is still unclear as to where Drogba’s destination within America will be.
It has been suggested that the 37-year-old, who has won the Champions League with Chelsea scoring the famous winning penalty against Bayern Munich in their own ground, has rejected several European sides, including Porto, in order to play football in the USA.
Back in May, Drogba was questioned about his future, and whether a move to the MLS would take his interest:
“Yeah of course, but I am going to take a few days, few weeks to think about what is good for me next. But all I want to do is play.
“A few years ago when I left, I said it before, I would never play for another English team. No disrespect to them, there are some brilliant, fantastic teams in the Premier League, but my love for this club, I can’t share it with another team.â€
During his time in West London, Drogba netted an outstanding 157 goals in 341 games for the Blues, in his first stint at Stamford Bridge that lasted seven years. Rejoining the club last season, and looking like he was coming towards the end of his game, Drogba netted seven goals, in 38 appearances.
During his time, Drogba has won four FA Cups, four Premier League titles and three League Cups, and never forgetting his infamous header AND penalty in the UEFA Champions League final.
