John Obi Mikel set to stay at Chelsea

In the past weeks, it has been reported that John Obi Mikel would be leaving Chelsea this summer but the Nigerian doesn’t look to go anywhere anytime soon.

The 28 years old has been tracked down by several clubs including: Real Madrid, Al Ain based in Dubai and more recently Fenerbahce.

He made a total of six appearances last season, but has failed to hold a regular place on the picth. Mikel must have his eyes elsewhere than Chelsea at the moment, as he seeks to revive his career and play on a regular basis but it doesn’t look like he will be going somewhere. He has had a successful spell with the Blues, who are the first team to  win the Champions League followed by the Europa League in successive seasons. Jose Mourinho has already expressed his desire to keep him in midfield, next season.

Fenerbahce, is the last club who have shown interest to sign the Nigerian international but it looks like they will soon drop their interest according to the President of the club Aziz Yildirim, he said:

“Chelsea want €15 million and Mikel asked for €5 million a season over four years. We are talking €35 million and this is not something we can pursue”

Mikel is tied to Chelsea until 2017, but in terms of summer transfers, Mikel looks set to spend another season in West London.
