Chelsea sign Pedro

Chelsea Football Club have announced the signing of Barcelona winger Pedro on a 4-year contract, for a reported fee of £21.4m plus add-ons.

It was reported earlier today that Manchester United had dropped any interest in signing the 28 year-old, who joins the Blues after 11 years at the Spanish giants, despite only joining the first team in 2007.

There had been reports earlier this month of Mourinho’s interest in the winger, but talk of Chelsea signing the Spaniard faded as United looked set to bring the player to Manchester.

Marca, who broke the news early on Wednesday morning, claim that the two clubs struck a deal on Tuesday night, before the winger flew to London on Wednesday to complete his medical.

The Spanish news outlet claim the deal to be in the region of €28m with €2m add-ons, reportedly trumping Manchester United’s bid of €25m with €5 add-ons, although it was not confirmed that any official bid was made.

Pedro joins the Blues after a successful spell in La Liga, which saw him feature in 185 League games (127 starts), scoring 58 goals in that time.

The 28 year-old has been used more sparingly since the arrival of Neymar and Luis Suarez at Barcelona, but will no doubt be utilised by Mourinho after a tricky start to the Premier League season.
