Juventus admit Oscar defeat

Serie A champions Juventus’ managing director, Giuseppe Marotta, had admitted defeat in their pursuit of Chelsea’s Brazilian play maker, Oscar.

Last season’s Champions League finalists, and domestic champions, have been monitoring proceedings at Stamford Bridge with it at one point looking likely that Oscar was ready to leave West London. However, this seems to not be the case.

Speaking to Standard Sport, Oscar insists that he is happy at Chelsea, and wants to stay. The Brazilian also says that he has no desire to join the Italian side.

Meanwhile, Juventus are remaining keen on bringing Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado back to the Serie A, at the same time as Marotta saying that a deal for Oscar could ‘never happen’.

Marotta told Quotidiano Sportivo

We are looking for a midfielder to add to our squad, though not necessarily a particular type of midfielder. They will join an eclectic group of midfielders that include Paul Pogba, Claudio Marchisio, Sami Khedira and Roberto Pereyra. Paulo Dybala can play in attacking midfield, too.

Isco and Oscar are both stellar players, but in the case of Juventus – unfortunately, for now – we will never be able to sign them.

Massimiliano Allegri is already short on numbers in midfield ahead of the new season, losing Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal over the summer.
