The transfer saga involving Everton defender John Stones and Chelsea looks like never ending. The Blues boss Jose Mourinho may have categorically put an end to the pursuit but the Toffees manager Roberto Martinez is incensed by John Terry’s comments.
Terry was speaking to talkSPORT and showered praises on the young England defender calling him ‘exceptional’. Even earlier, Gary Cahill showered glowering tributes of Stones in an apparent display of admiration.
Martinez seems unimpressed with what Terry has done though he did not want to talk about whether the 21-year-old told him about his desire to join Chelsea.
You know that is illegal. The rules do not allow you to comment in that open manner on players who are registered at other clubs. It is disappointing. We have a fantastic relationship between the two clubs and in the past we made our biggest investment in Chelsea.
Martinez was talking about his capture of former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku. Though Mourinho suggested that he is done with transfers for the window, there is anticipation at the club of another offer for Stones.
The management at Stamford Bridge rates Stones very highly and thinks that he can be the long-term replacement for Terry. With reported interest from competitors like Manchester United, Chelsea would want to strike a deal quickly.
However, Martinez would take nothing of this and re-affirmed his stand.
John Stones is not for sale, we have said that many time.
Though Martinez wants to rule it out, Stones is still at the center of transfer plans for the Blues. Do not be surprised if he ends up at the club – if not this transfer window, at least one year down the line.
