Can Chelsea still win the league?

Chelsea can definitely still retain the Premier League title but that doesn’t mean they will.

At the start of the season Chelsea were favourites to retain the league title but after a poor start from us, only claiming 4 points from our 5 league games so far and Manchester City winning all 5 of their matches it now looks less likely.

However I’m not ruling Chelsea out of winning the league again this season yet. Our squad is absolutely excellent when we play at our best like last season. At the moment the players are just underperforming and their current form won’t last forever. Hopefully they will sort it out soon. If Mourinho can get the players playing to how they were last season, our squad is definitely capable of matching the current Manchester City side. We walked the league last season and were almost unstoppable at Stamford Bridge. If this was to happen again we would pick up many points.

Another reason why Chelsea can still win the league is because of our manager, Mourinho. In my eyes he is the best manager in world football at the moment. For season after season he has got the best out of his players and there’s no reason why he can’t this season. However it needs to be done soon otherwise we will keep falling behind. Mourinho has an enormous amount of passion for our club, something not many managers have had with us for a while. He is absolutely desperate to win with Chelsea. He won’t settle for second best and will do everything in his power to make sure we put up a great title defence. Many managers have said Jose Mourinho sets up his teams like no other. Our players go into every game knowing all they need to know about their opposition.

Manchester City won’t keep their excellent form up all the way through the season either. There will be a spell where they don’t win for 2 or 3 games. The quality across the Premier League has got higher this season and anybody can beat anyone. The lower sides are now bringing the likes of Cabaye and Payet to their sides, players who in recent years would only move to teams playing in the Champions League. Even the league winners will drop around 30 points each season, and Pellegrini’s side are very likely to do the same. Unfortunately Chelsea have already dropped 11 points so we certainly need to go on a good unbeaten run if we are going to keep the league title in SW6.

Retaining the league will certainly be an extremely difficult task but I still believe our club are capable of doing it and hopefully we can get back on track straightaway with a win against Arsenal on Saturday.
