Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal – 5 things we learnt

Chelsea recorded only their 2nd win of the Premier League season with an emphatic 2-0 victory over Arsenal. With Jose Mouirnho looking to avoid a third successive defeat in the premier league, Arsenal presented the biggest test among the last three he has faced.

Despite playing at home, the pressure of winning a game against a London team and wiping away any concerns of the early season was palpable. These are five things I learnt after our win over the gunners on Saturday.

Zouma rises to the occasion

With Cheslea’s abysmal defending this season, as the side have conceded 12 goals in five games, There was little doubt there was going to be another culprit in this game. Ivanovic would be the easy target, but Zouma proved why Jose may not have to look too far for a defensive cover for his failing and slowing  captain.

Zouma was composed and showed a lot of maturity, which was shown in his last ditch tackle on Theo Walcott. The opening goal was well headed and capped a great performance put in by the young Frenchman.

Hazard not yet masterful but efficient

Eden Hazard has been a shadow of his former self; in this case, his last season self. It was an occasion he had to rise to. Chelsea needed inspiration and his movement was crucial to Chelsea’s hopes of securing all three points. He used to drag Chelsea from hopeless situations to the brink of victories.

He put up a display that will slowly get him back on the pedestal of the best players in the league. His chance creations, movements and his explosive surges into opposition boxes are signs of the Belgian magician returning to produce the magic we have become accustomed to.

Terry could be shown exit next summer

John Terry’s contract will end next summer and we must admit his performances will no warrant a new contract from the Chelsea hierarchy. He was left out of the squad to face Maccbi Tel Aviv last Wednesday in the Champions League game that saw Chelsea win 4-0. Jose answering questions about Terry’s omission was full of his previous protection of the English center back.

Last season, Terry was Chelsea leader; his overall contribution to our title winning campaign was masterclass as he missed none of the 38 games played in the Premier League.

Back line looks more solid

Chelsea have shipped in an awful lot of goals early this season and after last season’s title winning manager, Jose made changes to the team in the last two games, our team have kept two clean sheets. Terry and Zouma have been discussed in this article, so that leaves us with Gary Cahill, Cezar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic to analyze.

However, I will make do with Ivanovic as he’s been a hot topic for most critics of Cheslea’s poor start to the season. In this game, the vice captain held his won with perfectly timed interceptions and strong tackles that gave Alexis Sanchez a torrid time. Perhaps not back to his marauding best, but the Serbian’s approach and confidence displayed may yet point us to a renewed era from him.

Chelsea still have the edge over Arsenal

Battles between Chelsea and Arsenal borders beyond results; The Pride of London is at stake. Fans of both sides will want the bragging rights each time they face each other and Chelsea meager trophies may not compare to Arsenal’s rich history of winning trophies.

However, the Blues recent success in all competitions we participate in makes the debate a little more interesting. Eachtime Jose led Chelsea out of the tunnel to face a side managed npby Arsene Wenger, Blue fans were confident of a win, well aside the 2015 Community Shield defeat at the New Wembley.

Chelsea have found their belief again in the Premier League and it won’t come at a better time than when you face and defeat Arsenal.
