Everton 3-1 Chelsea: Player Ratings

Every week we come up with a Chelsea player ratings article, we try to be as unbiased as we can possibly be, each time a player jumps on the pitch we wipe the slate clean and assess what they have contributed on the day.

The last result away to Everton is energy sapping, totally depressing, I will break from tradition and assess the whole team’s performance this week.

From my personal point of view we had greater ball possession, better pass accuracy, more passes completed and most importantly more attempts at goal. For many years we have become used to Chelsea winning games from even 3 attempts at goal and less ball possession than we enjoyed this weekend.

We have grown accustomed to a disciplined well-oiled defence and watching wave after attacking wave crashing against our back four and winning the game often from well-executed counter attacks.

It’s against this backdrop that I say the team played poorly, it’s easy to single out a single player every time we lose but I think we need to blame the whole team.

For most of last season we praised Willian for been the first to respond on the right side of defence whenever Ivanovic was out of position, this season Oscar gets injured and Willian was deployed as a number 10 which exposed Chelsea on the right.

Pedro is not Willian if we are to replace Willian on the right we need a different right back who doesn’t need as much protection. Dave is way more athletic and in my books the correct man to replace Ivanovic.

At the end of the day it’s a team sport a team effort and players need to understand each other and make whatever sacrifices they need to make the team work.

We deserved better and got punished for every mistake. I expect a better defensive display from the team as a whole, so I will give the whole team a 5/10 for Saturdays’ performance.

A few senior players need a break. We are a bit unlucky and I feel our performances will pick up when we have a natural number 10 back in our starting line up in the form off Oscar.

Teams will continue concentrating their efforts on the right side of defence as long as Willian is not there to cover for Ivanovich maybe Jose should try Pedro as the number 10 if he insist’s that Ivanovich is an untouchable.

There is clearly a way to break Chelsea I don’t believe in this coincidence off every team consistently breaking us in one way what do you think?
