Fiorentina eye up Zouma loan with option to buy

The love-hate relationship between Chelsea and Fiorentina seems all likely to continue in the next transfer window. The whole fracas around Mohamed Salah is yet to die down but according to reports, the Italian club is ready to make a move for  the Blues defender Kurt Zouma.

The young defender is one of strong performers for Jose Mourinho this season having featured in all of the Blues’ Premier League games. The dipping form of John Terry hasn’t affected the club much, thanks to the work of Zouma.

These performances seem to have caught the eye of Italian league. The summer transfer window saw interest from Roma and Napoli. Now, Fiorentina looks set to join the queue in registering their intent for the former St. Etienne defender.

To be fair to all parties interested, the only way Mourinho would let the 20-year-old defender leave is if his form dramatically goes down from here. The Blues boss rates the youngster highly and even used him in a defensive midfield. His physical presence helped the team maintain their shape in all the games he played.

The twist in this whole episode could come in the form of John Stones. The pursuit of the young defender could be back on track in January and if it happens, the Blues manager could let Zouma leave.

From the fans perspective, Zouma gives a touch of assurance with his ability to hold the opposition attack at bay. The impending arrival of Stones should not push him out – even on loan. He could be the long term solution for Terry too!
