Mirror: Chelsea lining up Simeone as Mourinho replacement

After Chelsea publicly giving Mourinho a vote of confidence it seems that they are starting to look for a replacement behind the scenes should the worst happen this season.

The Mirror claim this morning that some Portuguese sources have had whispering of the Chelsea board are ready to offer Diego Simeone a bumper deal and pay his buy out clause of £15m. They will also have to pay out a reported £37.5m for Mourinho’s contract should this happen, after signing a 4 year extension earlier this year.

Chelsea are looking at Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone as a replacement for Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho was given a vote of confidence by owner Roman Abramovich last week. But he was made aware that he must now reassert his authority in the Stamford Bridge dressing room if he is to have a long-term future at the club.

That has prompted Chelsea to assess the possibility of prising Simeone out of Atletico. According to sources in Portugal, Mourinho is aware that the Blues are putting a succession plan in place if he fails to turn around Chelsea’s stuttering season.
