It has been a terrible start to the season for Chelsea who were the Champions of England not so long ago; changes are needed but with the lack of new ‘first team’ signings this summer Jose Mourinho may have to start using the talent in our youth system.
After Chelsea’s crushing 3-1 defeat to Southampton at Stamford Bridge; Mourinho has been publicly backed by club owner Roman Abramovich, an action the Russian billionaire has never done in his 10+ years at the London club.
Mourinho had said in an interview that Ruben Loftus-Cheek is ready for a spell in the first team with both Fabregas and Matic having an awful start to the season; both were key factors to Chelsea’s title winning campaign as Fabregas was the deep lying play maker with Matic covering his position which was once a great partnership and will hopefully come back one day. There has also been much speculation about Matic’s form this season as he was substituted on and then off again within half an hour which was embarrassing for the Serbian midfielder.
Another youngster who should be given a chance is Brazilian: Kenedy. The skillful forward was acquired from Brazillian side Fluminense (Deco’s former club) and has made quite an impact in a blues shirt as he showed what he was made off as he scored and got an assist against Walsall in the Capital One cup. Some people may say “it was only Walsall” but he showed great Character as he chased down every ball and always wanted it more than anyone else on the pitch.
Baba Rahman may not count as ‘youth’ but he still only 21 years old; the Ghanaian international was bought from Bundesliga side Augsburg but hasn’t featured in the premier league at all this season despite Branislav Ivanovic’s horrendous form, as Mourinho claims “He’s not ready for the premier league” yet the Bundesliga is just as physical. When Rahman has played he has shown nothing but quality and he has a bright future ahead of him (as long he as gets played)
