Chelsea’s poor start to the season has continued as they lost 2-1 away at potentially the last match at the Boleyn ground; this is now Chelsea’s 5th defeat of the premier league season and this could mean trouble for Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff. Roman Abramovich will not be happy after he didn’t get the birthday present he deserved.
West Ham took the lead in the 17th minute as a poorly defended corner ended up at Mauro Zarate’s feet who half volleyed it into the bottom corner where Asmir Begovic couldn’t get down quick enough.
Chelsea dominated the game from then on as they looked to get an equaliser and they thought they had after a Kurt Zouma header was taken off the line, through Adrian’s legs and almost across the line but Lanzini was there to save the day for the Irons as the ball was about an inch away from going in… Another chance came after a West Ham corner as Willian picked up the ball and ran through the middle of the pitch and spotted Fabregas who after a great touch planted the ball past Adrian… Offside.
Chelsea’s day went from bad to worse as their rock Matic in midfield was sent off after a second bookable offence; the Chelsea coaching staff were clearly unhappy with this as Silvino Louro chased onto the pitch with disgust and he was sent to the stands… During the half time break more trouble broke lose as Jose Mourinho attempted to get into the referee’s room where he was rejected and sent off in the process so now Chelsea was left manager less and had to have Rui Faria and Steve Holland take charge in the second half. Â This looked to have worked as Chelsea pushed on for an equaliser as they were awarded a corner in the 56th minute as the ever reliable: Willian, took the corner and found the feet of Gary Cahill who hit it on the half volley from close range and put it under Adrian’s body 1-1.
Time went by and both team were in search for an equaliser as both teams fought for the 3 points where the Hammers got what they were searching for as Aaron Cresswell spotted substitute: Andy Carroll, in the box he planted a delicious ball onto the Englishman’s head, where he directed the ball past the hopeless Asmir Begovic. Willian then tried his luck straight from kick off but was out of luck today; West ham went on the defensive and it was game over from then on for Chelsea. 2-1 it finished.
