According to The Mirror, Chelsea are interested in signing Liverpool’s Belgian striker Christian Benteke, who was signed by former boss Brendan Rodgers and has seen game time become irregular under new manager Jurgen Klopp.
The report states that the former Aston Villa striker was a target for Jose Mourinho heading into the January transfer window, but the Portuguese has now departed the club.
However, despite the fact that Mourinho has gone, the 25-year-old forward who signed for the Reds in a deal worth £32.5m could still be on the priority list for the West London club with Guus Hiddink now in charge.
The Dutch boss who has returned to the Blues on an interim basis for the second time has identified a lack of goals from the struggling Premier League champions, with the big Belgian seen as a potential solution.
The attacker has struggled to settle in on Merseyside since the arrival of former Borussia Dortmund manager Klopp and it’s unlikely that they would agree a loan deal for Benteke, despite Chelsea’s position in the league as they are still seen as a rival.
Therefore, this could see Benteke join the Blues on a permenent deal, once the window opens in January.
