Courtois: We can turn it around

Thibaut Courtois believes Chelsea have the quality in their squad to climb the table under interim boss Guus Hiddink.

Hiddink watched on as the Blues eased past Sam Allardyce’s Sunderland on the weekend, a much needed victory after a difficult week in West London.

Courtois, who recently returned to the side after a few months on the sideline, believes Chelsea can turn a corner with Hiddink’s arrival and begin to push on.

He was here before, he did very well and I think he’s a very good manager.

Hopefully together we can climb back up the table and we’re looking forward to starting working with him.

Chelsea will go into Boxing Day’s fixture with Watford in 15th place, a fate nobody could have predicted after the club’s success just seven months ago.

Obviously when a manager goes it’s a difficult situation.

Everybody is sad about what happened because we haven’t played well and won games, so we have to react and do better.

Whatever has happened [with Mourinho] stays in the past and now we want to work hard with the new manager to get a good result against Watford.

The goalkeeper is keen to build on a much-improved performance against Sunderland in an attempt to salvage something from a roller coaster of a season.

We don’t play to lose but we are responsible as well, we have top players so we shouldn’t be 15th in the league.

A win on boxing day will leave the Blues in high spirits to face Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United at Old Trafford just two days later – a huge opportunity for the Blues to go into the new year in the right form.
