Nathan Ake expects to stay at Watford

Dutch international, Nathan Ake is currently impressing on his loan move at Watford and doesn’t expect to return to Chelsea despite the appointment of Dutch compatriot: Guus Hiddink. Chelsea have struggled a lot this season and are sitting in 15th at Christmas whereas the Premier league champions were sitting comfortably at the top of the table this time last year. Nathan Ake has shown consistency this season in the left back position and even managed to get his first professional goal at the weekend against Liverpool in a shock 3-0 victory at Vicorage road. Watford are currently 10 points ahead of Chelsea with Ake flourishing under Quique Sanchez Flores.

I don’t think it’s because the manager changes, that suddenly now we have a chance to play. I think it’s just a matter of yourself, how you’re playing, how you develop, and if you’re able to come back next season and perform.

Nathan Ake was asked whether he would return to Chelsea in January:

It’s difficult to say. Of course I’m happy here because I play every time, and I think that’s going to be the case that I’ll stay here. You need to do the whole season, not just a couple of games. It’s Christmas now, and it has to be to the end of the season. I need to develop and then we’ll see next year.

The versatile Dutchman has won two FA youth cups at Chelsea and was given many opportunities under Rafa Benitez short time at Chelsea where he made his debut against Middlesbrough and was given a run of games in Chelsea Europa League winning campaign where he played an important part in the win over Rubin Kazan. Ake was used sparingly by Mourinho and was shocked by his departure.

We’ve got a lot of confidence now but we know we can’t get too much confidence and play easy, like we’re a bigger team.

I think Chelsea are still Chelsea. We’re still on the bottom, and need to play like that as well. This season has been crazy. I think it’s deserved because we’re playing really well. I think teams of course take us more seriously now.

Watford look to strengthen their squad in January and hope to keep Nathan Ake in an attempt to maintain their spot in the Premier league.
