Terry optimistic on Hiddink impact

Chelsea captain John Terry believes that new interim manager Guus Hiddink can rejuvenate a demoralised Chelsea side after the departure of Jose Mourinho last week.

Hiddink will officially take charge of Chelsea on Tuesday, after a one-on-one session with the recovering Radamel Falcao taking place on Sunday afternoon.

The Dutchman, who has previously entered the fray at Chelsea Football Club mid-way through a season, was appointed on Saturday just an hour before the Blues kicked off against Sunderland, and watched his new side win only their second Premier League match from eight.

It’s down to [Hiddink] to come in and pick us up. What he will bring is a hunger to the squad, a lot of passion and a lot of fire. He will demand a lot of players on the training field and matches. I’ve seen it before that he can come in and shake things up in a positive way and move forward. That’s why the club has made this decision. But it is very sad at the same time.

The Chelsea captain also emphasised the importance of picking up points to keep morale high around the club.

All it will be is results, that will define everything. If we can keep picking up points, the training ground will be a happier place and happier atmosphere. Players will be happy and play with habit of freedom; it all stems from results. But all goes back to the training ground. Players will want to impress Guus now, hopefully that lifts everyone and we can move on.

Hiddink’s first test will be on Boxing Day, as an in-form Watford side travel to The Bridge hoping to inflict a similar fate as they did to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
