Blues chase Bernabéu outcast

The London Evening Standard are reporting that Chelsea may be in the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Isco during the January transfer window.

With the Blues lacking the cutting edge creativity they were capable of last season, Isco – who has only started nine league matches under Benitez this season – could be the the perfect solution for Hiddink’s newly inspired Chelsea.

Chelsea may face stiff competition from Manchester City and Juventus, who are both reportedly interested in acquiring the Spaniard’s signature.

Rumours suggest Isco would be keen to link up with Manuel Pellegrini again, a manager he worked under at Malaga, where he made a name for himself in European football.

However, Pellegrini (in recent weeks) has been pessimistic about his long-term future in Manchester, and therefore the Chilean is likely to be insignificant in Isco’s plans.

The 23-year-old signed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2003, and has since made 79 appearances (58 starts), scoring 13 goals.

Real Madrid will be unwilling to see the Spaniard go half-way through the season, bit with the midfielder reportedly unhappy with his current situation in Madrid and the prospect of missing out on the Euros in the summer, it may be an opportunity for Chelsea to build on their attacking options.
