Blues edge towards first January signing

According to reports in The Express, Chelsea have offered a contract to Shakhtar Donetsk’s highly-rated forward, Alex Teixeira.

Because of Chelsea’s poor first half of the season, which as a result sees them sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table, the deal to bring the Brazilian to Stamford Bridge has gathered pace at quite a fast rate, with the attacker being wanted by Blues owner Roman Abramovich for quite a while.

Last year, the attacker was told by his club that he wasn’t allowed to depart, as Douglas Costa had already left to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Luiz Adriano had already made his way to Serie A side AC Milan.

In the Ukrainian top-flight, Teixeira has netted 22 times in 15 games. With form like that, it’s no wonder that some of football’s biggest clubs have clearly expressed their interest in his services.

Chelsea have been named as front-runners for the signature of Teixeira, who could do with a fresh face to come in and bring some fresh energy to the side.
