Chelsea duo doubtful for West Brom clash

According to Goal, Chelsea are monitoring the fitness of both Diego Costa and Eden Hazard, as they both battle to recover from their injury problems.

Eden Hazard hobbled off at Selhurst Park last weekend inside the first fifteen minutes, whilst Diego Costa picked up a knock late on in the FA Cup game against Scunthorpe United on Sunday.

Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink has said that he will be cautious when easing Belgian international Hazard back into the side, in the hope of preventing further injuries coming around for the former LOSC Lille man. Costa, who netted during the FA Cup clash against the League One side, may only miss one game.

I want to be careful with him so that he doesn’t start too early. It will maybe be a week later [than necessary] rather than too early.

Oscar was also brought off at half-time with an injury to his toe in a performance where the Blues were disappointing in the second half according to their interim boss. Ruben Loftus-Cheek replaced the Brazilian playmaker, and scored his first professional goal in the process.

There were some vulnerabilities in the second half, it’s true. So in that way we have to improve, Hiddink added.

We scored a beautiful goal and then we got a bit sloppy finishing it off.

They were still in the game and there was a big threat from free-kicks and corners. As long as it was 1-0 the threat was actual for us.

This was an important game for us. We are very determined to go on and get silverware at the end and that’s why you have to play these difficult games.
