Chelsea vs Everton – Predicted XI

Chelsea face Everton at home in the return fixture, in the game at Goodison earlier in the season transfer target John Stones put in a defensive master class and Steven Naismith came off the bench to humiliate us 3-1 with a superb hat-trick.

The Blues look to get revenge on the team we did the double over in our Premier League winning campaign. But with a new manager and new tactics could Guus Hiddink get one over Martinez? I predict he will pick a mixed line up this afternoon, here is who I think he’ll play.

GK – Thibaut Courtois: The Belgian has looked very shaky since returning from injury, but hopefully he will find his form for the game against the Toffees.

RB – Branislav Ivanovic: Surprisingly one of our best players in a shambles of a game against West Brom, the experienced Serbian is set to receive a new contract at the club and could continue in the side this weekend.

CB – Kurt Zouma & John Terry: Our strongest defensive partnership has to start against Everton, Kurt Zouma may have looked shaky against West Brom, but he is only young and has been insane this season.

LB – Cesar Azpilicueta: During the week, Dave got his first premier league goal at home for Chelsea and his second for the season (first coming against West Brom away), after getting on the end of a Branislav Ivanovic cross to slide it past Boaz Myhill. The Spaniard is Mr. Reliable this season and will continue in defence against Everton.

CDM – John Obi Mikel & Cesc Fabregas: Who’d thought that these two players would be performing so well under Hiddink this season, because I certainly didn’t. Mikel has given the solidity Nemanja Matic hasn’t this season, which is allowing Fabregas the freedom to do what he does best. This partnership is clearly Hiddink’s favourite partnership and it should continue into this next game.

RW – Willian: The Brazilian has been our best player this season and his stood up when Eden Hazard has gone missing. He has become a key player in the starting XI and should be the first name on the team sheet.

CAM – Ruben Loftus-Cheek: I’m going out on a limb on this one, RLC put in a great performance against Scunthorpe getting a goal from this position. Oscar has been incredibly inconsistent this season and lost possession so many times against West Brom.  Surely Hiddink has to look at Ruben and say ‘It’s your time’.

LW – Kenedy: The young Brazilian was brought on at half time against West Brom and put in a great performance and forced an own goal. Pedro was bullied of the ball a lot in that game, so Kenedy deserves a chance to prove himself, with Hazard injured.

CF – Diego Costa: The Spaniard has has a resurgence of form under Hiddink and was Chelsea’s best player against West Brom, chasing every ball and putting pressure on the defence. Costa has shown a lot of passion under Hiddink, even putting a hole in the wall, down in the tunnel. Costa’s fiery nature is what Chelsea need in times of turmoil.
