Redknapp: Former Gunner ran the show at Arsenal

Following Chelsea’s 1-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday against rivals Arsenal, pundit Jamie Redknapp has heaped praise onto former Gunner Cesc Fabregas, for his performance in the fixture that grabbed him the Man of the Match award.

Despite his poor season thus far, Fabregas really set the Emirates on fire with his display throughout the game yesterday as the Blues grabbed a narrow three points to do the double of Arsene Wenger’s side this campaign.

However, the hosts had to play the majority of the game with 10-men, as German defender Per Mertesacker saw red for a last-man challenge on Diego Costa who was bearing down on goal.

The eventual winner came from the Spanish striker, who connected well with a Branislav Ivanovic cross to put the ball in the net.

At the end of the game, Cesc Fabregas was named as the Man of the Match thanks to his continuous accurate passing and his immense work-rate.

Jamie Redknapp, who is now a pundit after calling it a day on his playing career where he was most known for playing at Liverpool, said that Fabregas’ performance was much welcomed following such a poor title-retaining season. Writing in his Daily Mail column, Redknapp said:

This was always going to be a tough game for Cesc Fabregas. He’s been portrayed as someone who badly let down Jose Mourinho and always has a point to prove against Arsenal.

Fabregas ran the game, and not just after the red card — he was in control from start to finish and completed 70 passes, the joint-best on the pitch.

That will put some credit in the bank with the Chelsea faithful.
